Improvement of Silkworm Varieties (Bombyx mori L.) About New Breed Mudeung Keumho

The breeding experiment has producted 10 new breeds which were named 11 to 20. These breeds, differing in one or more characters as given below. The data for these 10 breeds are compared with those for Zam 103 and Zam 104 (usued as the control) in table. As shown is table, 19 breed (named Mudeung later) 20 breed (named keunho later) appeared to be promising. Specially the new 20 breed was superior in many characters to the other. The breeds were each crossed with 20 breed to test hybrids. The hybrid of 19×20 gave the highest cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae and excellent cocoon layer rate (23.6%) Sericultural experiment station reared those breeds to test hybrid of mudeung keumho (19×20) again in the spring 1973 comparing with authorized selkworm race Zam 107×Zam 108 (used as the control) The results of rearing in Sericultural experiment station the hybrid of mudeung×kemho (19×20) appeared to be promising. So Government appoint to mudeung keunho as an authorized silkworm race through the concil in October 1973.
