Rust data from 8 progeny tests, high rust hazard field tests and artificial inoculation experiments were subjected to rank correlation analyses. Half of the progeny tests were poorly correlated with high rust hazard field tests and with inoculation tests, other progeny tests were significantly correlated with high rust hazard tests. Strong rank correlation between 5th year and 10th year data confirmed the use of rust data as early as age of five. Mixed results of rank correlations suggest that any one test should not be over emphasized for evaluation of rust resistance in slash pine.
