Seven maize genotypes were tested at nine different locations over two years throughout the country. Six agronomic traits were estimated including grain yield, 100-kernel weight, 1 liter weight, days to mid-silk, days to tassel, and plant height. Average values of the respective traits in each replication at different locations tested were used for the estimates of correlation coefficient, analyses of variance, and variance components. The between location variation was large far all six traits; e.g. locational average for grain yield was 584.7 kilograms per 10 are and ranged from 381.6kg to 722.7kg. The 100-kernel weight correlated significantly with grain yield and was considered as a major yield component. In the analyses of variance for grain yield, mean squares for genotype and genotype × location were significant at the 1% level in both 1972 and 1973. Mean squares of genotype × location × year and genotype for grain yield were also significant at the 1% level and that for genotype × location was significant at the 5% level, respectively. However, no significant genotype × year mean square was obtained. The relative significance of mean squares for 1 liter weight, and days to mid-silk in the combined year analyses were somewhat similar with that for grain yield. genotype mean squre for 100-kernel weight was not significant. The estimates of genotype × location × year interactions were of a large magnitude for all traits studied, indicating the relative importance of genotype × environment interactions for agronomic traits of maize in Korea.
