Recessive-Deficit in the Induced Mutation of Cereal Crops

Speculations on the size of mutated sector in M₁ panicle or the numbers of initial cells in the shoot apices of seed embryo responsible for the formation of sporogenous tissue of M₁ panicle have been made simply by examining the segregation ratio of chlorophyll mutants in M₂. The size of mutated sector in the M₁ panicle may be affected by the difference in functions between the mutated and non-mutated initial cells as well as by the number of initial cells when it numbers many as is in the case of maize. Segregation ratio in induced mutation may also be influenced by the genetically varied types of recessive mutations as well as by the viability and functions of mutated reproductive cell and recessive homozygote.
