Genetic vulnerability has been explained based on the theory of gene-for-gene concept and of genetic polymorphism in major cultivated crops. At least 7 major genetic vulnerability have occured in the world are given with the references of maize, wheat, and coffee etc. Genetic vulnerability causes from the inter-relationships of host resistance with pathogen or parasite, and pathogen or parasite with chemicals, respectively. Too wide spread of certain varieties for dramatic yield increase and too much use of certain chemicals for control disease and insect pests may bring varieous genetic vulnerability in Korea. Possible substantial damages of crop products in Korea caused by genetic vulnerability could be escaped or reduced by using good sources of host genetic diversity which is the best insurance against vulnerability. Wise use of resistant mechanisms such as multicomponent, general, and multigenic types of resistance should also contribute to have less genetic vulnerability in our crops.
