825 soybean local lines grown by farmers in Korea were studied in 1973 and 1974 to provide as basis for planning more efficient programs and for selecting high yielding varieties. Genotypic and phenotypic correlations and path coefficient analysis were performed to determine the direct and indirect effects of seed components on grain yield. Grain yield was more strongly correlated with days to maturity and seed weight which had high possitive association with days to maturity, protein and oil content. Days to maturity was positively and significantly correlated with number of pods per plant and protein content, but negatively and significantly associated with oil content. Path coefficient analysis indicated that seed weight had directly and indirectly strong influences upon grain yield compared with other seed components. Thus, it appeared that relatively more emphasis should be given to seed weight during selection in the present analysis.
