초등학교 교과서 수록 어휘 양상 연구

A Study of the Vocabulary of Elementary School Textbooks for Selecting Vocabulary of Education

이 연구는 초등학교 교과서에 수록된 어휘를 조사하고 그 양상을 살피고자 국어, 수학, 사회, 과학 4개 교과를 선정하여 2007 개정 교육과정기 교과서와 2009 개정 교 육과정기 교과서 어휘를 분석하였다. 해당 교과서의 어휘를 분석한 결과 2007 개정 교육과정기 교과서의 경우, 학년이 올라감에 따라 어휘의 양이 증가하기는 하나 증 가 비율이 일정하지는 않았으며, 같은 학년 내에서도 교과 간 어휘 수록 양상의 편 차가 큰 것으로 드러났다. 2009 개정 교육과정기 교과서의 경우, 현재 개발된 교과서 일부의 어휘를 분석했을 때는 2007 개정 교육과정기 교과서보다 어휘의 수가 많았 고, 일부 과목에서는 어휘 수는 늘어났으나 어휘 다양도는 낮아지는 양상을 보이기 도 했다. 2007 개정 교육과정기 교과서의 어휘 등급 분포를 살펴보면, 1학년에서 6학 년까지 전체적으로 1-5등급의 어휘가 절반 이상을 차지하고 있어, 초등학생 수준의 어휘가 교과서에 제시되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 학년이 올라감에 따라 순차적 인 비율로 어휘가 점차 고빈도어에서 저빈도어로 이동하는 양상을 보였다. 본 연구 에서는 학년별 교과서의 어휘 수록 양상 전반을 검토하였으나, 추후에는 이런 자료 를 어휘 종류별로, 혹은 교과별로 분석하여 어휘 교육에 활용될 수 있는 보다 실효 성 있는 자료를 구축할 필요가 있다.

This analysis will examine the textbook vocabulary and its aspect in selected elementary subjects of Korean, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science by analyzing 64 volumes for 1st through 6th graders in 1st/2nd semesters revised in 2007 and 28 volumes for 1st-2nd graders revised in 2009. Overall, TNW in 2007 curriculum has increased with grades but been irregular in its increase ratio, showing the imbalance of included vocabulary among subjects within the same grade. Some textbooks in 2009 curriculum developed so far show bigger size of vocabulary than that of 2007 curriculum and TNW increase in some subjects but less vocabulary variety at the same time. As to vocabulary level in 2007 curriculum, more than half of vocabulary for 1st through 6th grades is 1 to 5 levels, which shows the overall use of elementary school level vocabulary in textbooks. This analysis focused on the overall aspect of vocabulary included in textbooks but it will proceed into establishing useful and effective data for vocabulary education by analyzing vocabulary in sorts within textbooks with more variety.
