Genetic Studies on New Pulse Crops for Breeding I. Correlations and Path-coefficients on Some Characters of Broad Bean (Vicia faba L.)

Genetic correlations were slightly higher than the corresponding phenotypic correlations. Genetic correlations between grain weight and other characters indicated that high seed yields were genetically correlated with days to maturity, pod numbers per plant, grain numbers per plant and 100 grain weight, etc. It was also recognized that grain numbers per plant, 100 grain weight, days to maturity and stem diameter have influenced directly upon the yield of broad beans, and grain numbers per plant, 100 grain weight, plant height and stem diameter have also influenced in directly upon the yield. As a result, it can be concluded that several characters namely days to maturity, pod numbers per plant, grain numbers per plant and 100 grain weight are important characters in breeding of desirable varieties of broad beans.
