Highly positive correlations were obtained between days from flowering to maturity and days to maturity, between length of pod stalk and pod length, between pod length and grain numbers per pod, between grain numbers per plant and days to maturity, length of pod stalk, pod length and pod numbers per plant, etc. Highly positive correlations were also shown between 100 grain weight and days to maturity, and between. 100 .grain weight and length of poi stalk, but negative correlations were shown between 100 grain weight and pod length, grain numbers per pod, and grain numbers per plant. Seed yield was correlated with pod numbers per pants and grain numbers per plant, etc. It was also recognized that pod numbers per plant, 100 grain weight and grain numbers per plant have influenced directly upon the yield of cowpeas, and pod numbers per plant, 100 grain weight, pod length and days to maturity have influenced indirectly upon the yield. As a result, it can be concluded that pod numbers per plant, grain numbers per plant, 100 grain weight, grain numbers per pod, days to maturity and pod length are important characters in breeding of desirable cowpeas.
