17 crosses in F₁ and 3 crosses in F₂ generation among 36 crosses of rice hybrids showed higher grain yield than their higher yielding parent. Among those 17 F₁s, 4 F₁s obtained higher grain yield than the highest yielding parent. But, none in F₂ showed higher yield than the highest yielding parent. Number of panicles per hill showed the highest and percentage of matured grain showed the next positive effect on grain yield.
