Modifier Genes of Opaque -2 Gene in Corn, Zea mays L.

In order to clarify the presence and gene action of modifiers of opaque-2 gene in maize (Zeamcys, L), modified opaque-2 maize presumably having modifiers of opaque-2 gene was used in crosses with normal maize. From F₂ segregating ears the genetical presence of modifiers in modified opaque-2 stocks was recognized. The action of modifiers on the kernel opacity varied in great extent depending upon the modifier (s) in the modified opaque-2 stock. The 1/2 and 1/2 modified opaque-2 kernel was genetically assured by five generations of selfing. One of the identified modifiers was acted as dominent and other one as recessive. The allelic relationship of these modifiers was not confirmed.
