Heritability of heading date and culm length in malting barley were very high and the local variation was relatively small. Maturing date, spike length and number of spikes per m² were comparatively high in heritability and local variation of heritability was slightly large. Heritability estimation for number of grains and 1,000 grain weight was low due to large local variation. Direct effect of number of spikes per m² and number of grains per spike to yield was high.
