Studies were conducted on the inheritance of side-shootlessness in tomato using the side-shootless mutants ‘ls’ and ‘bl’. In F₂ progenies of ‘ls’ × ‘bl’, normal and side-shootless plants segregated in the ratio of 9:7. In side-shootless plants number of side-shoots varied from 0 to 8. In F₂ progenies of ‘ls’ × ‘bl’ indeterminate and determinate plants did not segregate in the ratio of 3:1. The same results were obtained from F₂ progenies of three way crosses and true breeding lines of ‘ls’ and ‘bl’ tomato. It was supposed that ‘ls’ or ‘bl’ gene has a recessive epistastic effect on Sp gene. In determinate progenies the number of self-pruning cluster varied from 1 to 10. Side-shootless plant with normal flower and above 4 flowers per cluster was not observed. Number of flowers per cluster varied considerably according to the phenotype of the F₂ progenies of ‘ls’ × ‘bl’. Number of seeds per fruit varied considerably according to the phenotype of the F₂ progenies of ‘ls’ × ‘bl’.
