The characteristics of the mutant sf (female sterile) on barley were examined under the green house condition. The plant height, spike length, and kernel length were larger that of Tochiki Golden Melon which is original cultivar of the mutant. And it was considered that the female sterility of the mutant was not due to the genetic defects on the ovary The mutant gene gigas (sf) showed clear cut segrekation of 3:1 in the F₂ population, when the mutant was crossed to normal diploids with SE15 background, indicating the mutant character was controlled by Mendelian simple gene. The primary trisomic analysis was applied to locate gigas mutant gene (sf) on the specific chromosome. And the crosses were pride between the gene and those of Triplo 4, Triplo 7, Triplo 6 and Triplo 7. The results of the F₂ segretation in the 2χ population showed the disomic ratio, and also some homozygous recessive individuals were found in the 2χ+1 trisomic population. Therefore it will be conclusive that the gigas gene (sf) is not associated with the chromosome 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the barley.
