Genetic Studies on Some Soybean Quantitative Characters by the Diallel Cross

Genetic studies on the F₁ generation by the the diallel crosses involving six soybean vatieties were conducted by the randomized block design with three replications to determine the combining ability, gene distributions and the relation ships between parents and their F₁ hybrids. Partial dominance was exhibited by days to flowering, plant height, stem diameter, branch numbers per plant, pod numbers per plant, grain numbers per plant, 100 grain weight and grain weight per plant, and over dominance was expressed by days from flowering to maturity and days to maturity, respectively. Differences among crosses in apparent degree of dominance existed for many of the characters. Mean square values of GCA(general combining ability) were greater than those of SCA (specific combining ability) for all characters estimated, the effects of GCA were different from parents and characters, and the effects of SCA were also different from parents, characters and crosses.
