Segregation mode of panicle exsertion in F₂generation in rice crosses

F₂ populations of six rice crosses were planted and observed at three different growing season to know the segregating mode and the relationship of panicle exsertion with heading date and culm length of rice plants. The segregation mode of panicle exsertion in six F₂ populations was not simple at three growing seasons practised. Additive gene effect and transgressive segregants for panicle exsertion were found at all growing conditions. Panicle exsertion was segregated independently with heading date of rice plant in F₂ generation at normal growing season, but F₂ segregants headed at late season included more plants of poor panicle exsertion compared with early heading segregants in three cross combinations among six at late seasonal cultivation. Semi-dwarf segregants in F₂ generation showed more frequency of poor panicle exsertion plants compared with tall segregants. Panicle exsertion was related positively with culm length among semi-dwarf F₂ segregants.
