Present works were carried out to investigate the meiosis of megaspore and microspore mother cell, the change of anther wall tissue, and the formation of egg apparatus in the five male sterile lines and the two normal lines of carrots. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. The meiosis of megaspore and microspore mother cell and the nuclear division had progressed regularly, and had formed the normal pollen grains and embryo sacs, in MF 1816-1 F and MF 1875 F. 2. All of the five male sterile lines were male sterile, because of the tapetum tissues hypertrophied at the meiotic stage of microspore mother cell, tetrad stage, early non-vacuolate microspore stage, and vacuolated microspore stage. 3. Most of the five male sterile lines were affected the formation of egg apparatus in pistil, and the normal embryo sac of MS 1697 BA. and MS 1635 BA were 70 and 25%, and those of MS 2538 P., MS 2522 P. and MS 2556 P. were 40,10 and 2%. 4. The two polar nucleuses of normal lines were fusion, but those of male sterile lines were often non-fusion at just before blooming stage. 5. There were the abnormal embryo sacs having the egg cell and synergid formed out of inner or outer integument, in the some plants of male sterile lines.
