The experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential genetic variability present in intra-and inter-type hybrids and to obtain estimates of gene action in crosses among Korean local and Oriental tobacco varieties. Eight parents (four Korean local and four Oriental tobacco varieties), 56 F₁ hybrids, and 56 F₂ populations from full diallel crosses among them were evaluated. The results obtained are summarized as follows : Partial dominance was observed for all characters studied except reducing sugar content which was found to be overdominance. Dominance was found in the direction of increasing stem height, leaf length and width, and of earlier days to flowering, while the other characters were appeared no evident direction. The number of effective genes estimated was 1 for stem height, leaf number, leaf width, nicotine and 3 for yield, 4 for leaf length, and 2 to 5 for days to flowering, respectively.
