Gentic analysis of quantitative characters in diallel crosses among Korean local and oriental tobacco(N. tabacum L.) Ⅲ. Heritability, Correlation, Path coeffient and Selection index

The experiment was conducted to obtain estimates of heritability, correlation, path coefficient and selection index in crosses among Korean local and Oriental tobacco varieties. Eight parents(four Korean local and four Oriental tobacco varieties), 56 F₁ hybrids, and 56 F₂ populations from full diallel crosses among them were evaluated. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Estimated heritabilities in the narrow sense in both F₁ hybrids and F₂ populations were ranged from 87.42% to 96.22% for leaf number, days to flowering and nicotine content, while those of yield, stem height, leaf length and width, and reducing sugar content were ranged from 32.55% to 60.49%. 2. Positive genotypic correlation coefficients both in F₁ hybrids and F₂ populations were appeared between yield and stem height, leaf number, leaf length and width, and days to flowering, and nicotine content showed negative correlations with the other characters studied except reducing sugar content in F₁ and leaf length and reducing sugar content in F₂ generation. 3. Path coefficient analysis revealed that stem height, days to flowering, and leaf width imposed direct effect greatly on yield in F₁ hybrids, and days to flowering and leaf width showed that effect in F₂ populations. 4. Expected relative efficiency of selection index combined leaf width and days to flowering was revealed no great difference comparing with those of any other selection indicies with more characters combined.
