Investigations were made to obtain the genetic informations on the fertility restoration in the WA-CGMS (Wild Abortive Cytoplasmic Genetic Male Sterility) system. Two CGMS lines, V20A and Z97A, two CGMS maintainer lines, V20B and Z97B, and three restorer lines, S·287, S·294 and M·46 were used in this study. The grain sterility of individual plants in the 6 F₂ populations of CGMS/Restorer crosses and in the 6 F₁ populations of CGMS//Maintainer/Restorer crosses were examined and their segregation ratio was tested. In the F₂ of the CGMS/Restorer crosses, 5 among 6 crosses grown in the greenhouse fitted to the 3 : 1 segregation ratio for fertile to sterile, but it fitted in the 2 among 6 crosses grown in the field. In the F₁ of the three-way crosses, CGMS//Maintainer/Restorer, grown in the field, all of the 6 crosses fitted to the 1 : 1 segregation ratio for fertile to sterile. From the results, it is concluded that one dominant gene is responsible for the fertility restoration in the WA-CGMS system.
