The inheritance and selection efficiency of the trypsin inhibiting activity and its electrophoretic band pattern were studied to develop deficient or low active cultivars in trypsin inhibitor of soybean. Inheritance of trypsin inhibitor activity was controlled by a few partial dominant or dominant, and minor genes, showing quantitative inheritance. The heritability and genetic gains estimated for low activity of trypsin inhibitor ranged from 64% to 75% and from 4500 to 9500, respectively. The high heritability and considerable genetic gains assured that the selection for low activity of trypsin inhibitor in the early generation of hybrid population would be very effective. Ti¹, Ti² and Ti³ band pattern of kunitz type trypsin inhibitor were controlled by codominant multiple allelic system and the absence of trysin inhibitor band was inherited as a recessive to Ti¹, Ti² and Ti³. And thus genotype of Keumdu which is absence of trysin inhibitor band was homozygous recessive (ti ti).
