Genetic analysis of quantitative characters in diallel crosses of pepper(capsicum annuum L.)

Gene action was estimated by diallel cross analysis of six parents selected from each of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) varietal groups classified by Principal component score distance. In variance and covariance analysis (Wr-Vr) for thirteen characters the mean square of array except for days to flowering, plant height, fruit length, fruit diameter were significant, which suggest that varieties involved in the diallel set cross may have epitasis. Complete dominance was observed in the days to flowering and plant height while partial dominance was observed in the fruit length, and fruit diameter. Broad sense heritability for days to flowering, plant height, fruit length and fruit diameter was ranged from 0.95 to 0.99. Narrow sense heritability for days to flowering, plant height, fruit length, and fruit diameter were 0.58, 0.60, 0.83, and 0.90, respectively.
