Genetic analysis of peroxidase isozymes in tillered maize

This study was conducted to understand genetic segregation of peroxidase isozymes in maize with tillers. Materials used for the study were stele tissues of tillered maize IK(P₁), non-tillered A-type(P₂), the F₁ between IK and A type, and F₂ progenies. The stele was sampled from five day old seedlings. The band patterns of px.3 isozymes were clearly different between IK inbred with tiller and A type without tiller. The band patterns of peroxidase isozyme for maize stele tissue were judged to be functional as monomer, which (IK x A-type) F₁ did not show hybrid band. The band patterns of peroxidase isozyme allele in F₂ progenies used were judged to be functional as two alleles in the px.8, three in the px.3, two in the px.9, two in the px.5, and three in the px.4, respectively. The band patterns of peroxidase isozyme for stele tissue were segregated by single gene to the Mendelian genetic ratios.
