More than 230 kinds of old books concerned with agriculture were published during of Chosun-dynasty(Yi-dynasty) in Korea. Sixty kinds of vegetable crops were described in 26 kinds of old books among those 230 kinds of old books concerned with agriculture published from 1400 to 1886. 33 kinds of edible leaf vegetables, 16 kinds of root vegetables, and 11 kinds of fruit vegetables were described in those old books mentioned above, and among those books, Saekkeoung(1676), Saekkeung-Jeungjip(1688-1689), Sanlimkyungje(1700), Nongayokyol(1700), Jungbo-Sanlimkyungje(1766), Kosasinseou(1771), Bonsa(1787), Haedong-Nongseou(1789-1799), Kwanheuji and Yimyon-Kyungjeji(1842-1845), and Nongjeungseou were very important publications. Especially, in Sanlimgyungje, Jungbo-Sanlimkyungje, Kosasinseou, Haedong-Nongseou, Kwanheuji and Yimyon-Kyungjeji, variety names were also described for 16 vegetable crops named lettuce, welsh onion, marsh mallw, Korean parsely, leek, Chinese cabbage, amaranth (Pigweed), garlic, taro, turnip, radish, bell-flower, cucumber, melon, gourd, and eggplant, etc.
