Old references related to agriculture in Korea Ⅷ. Kinds of ornamental plants and their varieties described(1449-1845)

More than 230 kinds of old books concerned with agriculture were published during the Chosun-dynasty(Yi-dynasty) in Korea. Fifty five kinds of ornamental plants, including flowering trees and flowering herbs, were described in 19 kinds of old books among those 230 kinds of old books concerned with agriculture published from 1449 to 1845. Many variety names were described and illustrated their varietal characteristics for kinds of plants, i.e. plum trees, orchids, chrysanthemums, bamboos, tree peony(es), peony (es), rose vines, camellia trees, daphne trees, and SakeHwa(fourseason-flower, Rosa spp.), in five Korean old books, Yanghwarok, Sanlimkyungje, Jungbo-Sanlimkyungje, Kosasinsou, and Yimyonkyungjeji, respectively. Especially, in Yimwonkyungjeji published 1842-1845, 638 variety names were described and illustrated their characteristics, included 5 varieties of chrysanthemums, 10 varieties of bamboos, 307 varieties of tree peony(es), 42 varieties of peony(es), 7 varieties of roses, and 7 varieties of daphne trees, respectively.
