Inheritance of quantitative characters in diallel cross of rice Ⅴ. Combining ability of harvest index and productivity score in japonica rice

The combining ability of harvest index and productivity score was studied in the F₁ and F₂ generations of 15 crosses from the partial diallel cross by 6 Japonica rice varieties. The effects of general combining ability(GCA) and specific combining ability(SCA) were highly significant for harvest index and productivity score, and the GCA of these two characters in F₁ and F₂ generations was greater than SCA. The effects of GCA and SCA were different by characters, and the GCA and SCA of harvest index were more or less greater than those of productivity score. Ishioramochi 7 and RAC3 as parents were quite effective for increasing harvest index and productivity score. There was highly significant correlation between generations in variance based on ranks of parental GCA effects of harvest index and productivity score, but there was no significant correlation between generations in variance based on parental GCA effects of them.
