Comparison of agronomic traits in barley near-isogenic lines for growth habit

Four near-isogenic lines for growth habit derived from the breeder’s seeds of Oweolbori and Jogangbori were cultivated in the field and compared among major agronomic traits. In Oweolbori isogenic lines, the spring habit type(Ⅰ) had the characteristics with higher winter hardiness, faster heading & maturity dates, longer grain filling period and heavier 1,000 grain weight in comparison with the facultative habit type(Ⅲ). However, the culm was shorter, and spike/㎡, kernels/spike, test weight, and yield became smaller than the facultative type. In Jogangbori isogenic lines, the spring type had the traits with faster heading & maturity dates, shorter grain filling period, greater spike/㎡, higher yield, but lighter 1,000 grain weight in comparison with the facultative type. The growth habit had negative correlation with the winter hardiness, but positive correlations with heading & maturity dates, culm length, kernels/spike, test weight. The heading date was positively correlated with maturity date, culm length, distance flagleaf to spike, spike/㎡, kernels/spike, and yield, but negatively correlated with grain filling period, 1,000 grain weight. Also the yield was positively correlated with spike/㎡, kernels/spike, but negatively correlated with grain filling period and 1,000 grain weight.
