Festival of the first fish is an ancient ritual feast of the indigenous inhabitants of Siberia. It began with the appearance of the first fish in the river. It is still revered by all the peoples of the north: Itelmen, Eveny, Koryak, Aleut, for which fish remains the staple food. With wish that the summer will be a big catch of a fish, the people of Siberia considered it compulsory to meet the first fish with dignity. The meaning of the rite is to lure fish to the northern rivers with the help of ritual activities and ensure a good haul throughout the fish season. During the festival traditional competitions and games are held. The festival reenacts traditional fishing folk culture such as ritual for a large harvest, as well as seafood experiences for visitors to try. Guests are treated with fish soup “ukha”. Recently, the holiday is decorated with a show of a folkcraft article and traditional costumes.
