Karyotype analysis of aegilops searsii

The karyotype of Aegilops searsii was investigated. The number of somatic chromosome of Aegilops searsii was 2n=14. Seven pairs of homologous chromosome were distinguished each other on the basis of satellites, total length and arm ratio. There were two pairs of chromosomes with satellites, three pairs of relatively long chromosomes and two pairs of comparatively short chromosomes. Two pairs of chromosomes had slightly submedian centromeric position, four pairs of chromsomes had submedian centromeric position and one pair of chromosomes had median centromeric position. The total complement length was 62.48μm, with an average chromosome length of 8.93μm. The length of the longest chromosome(chromosome Ⅲ) was 10.22μm, whereas the shortest one(chromosome Ⅶ) was 7.77μm. The mean length of satellite was 1.13μm.
