Effects of vitamin and inositol on production of essential oil and its composition in mentha piperita L. in vitro culture

This study was carried out to investigate effects of inositol and vitamines on the production of essential oil and its composition in order to know information for raising production of essential oil in Mentha piperita callus cultures. The results indicated that addtional concentration of myo-inositol increased the production of essential oil in Lin-Staba while it was decreased in MS-modify media. The menthol production was decreased in two media, although cell growth was increased in both media. When vitamin was added in twice as much concentration as basic media, the production of essential oil was increased in LinStaba while decreased in MS-modify media. The menthol production was decreased in two media increased with vitamin concentration.
