Method of breaking immature seed dormancy of barley by H₂O₂ treatment for accelerating generation advancement (Immature seed was soaked in 1% H₂O₂ solution at 25℃ for 16~17 hours after high temperature treatment at 45℃ for 2 hours and then exposed at 11℃ for 30 hours. After these treatments sprouted seeds are sown by hand one by one.) is difficult to handle and labour-consuming to sow. Therefore the effects of drying treatment (45℃, 2 hours) and gibberellin treatment (Immature seed was soaked in 100~300ppm of gibberellin acid for 1 hour after high temperature treatment at 45℃ for 2 hours.) on breaking dormancy were compared with H₂O₂ treating method in the case of fall and spring sowing. The results are as follows : Germination ratio was higher in 25-day matured seed than 20day matured seed. It was 92-93% in the matured seed but those of the immatured seed were 78~89%, 76~88%, 82~92%, and 43~78% in the treatment of H₂O₂, drying, gibbereIlin, and no treatment, respectively. Survival ratio of seedlings after sowing was little different in each treatments except high concentration treatments of gibberellin, in which seedlings were overgrowing and died. Seedlings were headed normally in each treatments except no treatment sown in fall, in which heading was delayed a little, and the other characteristics like culm length and number of seeds were normal.
