영화산업 태동기 조직군의 전략적 활동과 산업화 과정에 대한 연구

Industrailization of Film Industry and Strategic Adaptation of Organization Population : Focusing on American Film Industry from 1893 to 1929

본 연구는 영화산업의 산업화 초기단계의 역사적 사실을 조직군 생태학 이론적 관점에서 분석하여 영화산업의 태동과 산업과 과정을 면밀히 분석함으로써 시사점을 찾아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1893년부터 1929년까지 미국 영화산업의 역사적 사건들을 중심으로 산업화 초기단계화 심화과정을 분석하였다. 분석결과 미국 영화산업은 MPPC의 전략적 활동과 제작과 유통을 함께 수행하던 제너럴리스트(generalist)의 자원집중으로 환경수용능력이 향상되었으며 이를 통해 스페셜리스트(specialist)들이 형성되고 이들의 혁신 활동이 증가하면서 산업화가 심화되었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

This study aims at illuminating the process of industrialization of American film industry. To do this, I analyzed historical events of American film industry from 1893 to 1929 based on organization population ecology theory. The result shows that the carrying capacity of American film industry had increased by the strategic adaption of MPPC and resources concentration of generalist who carried on the production, distribution and exhibition activities. This influenced the formation of specialists who got engaged in innovation activities, which also had increased by the carrying capacity of population. Through this research we could find that interactions of generalist and specialist had deepened the industrialization of American film industry.
