The Actual Condition and Tasks of Teachers Population Education

본 연구에서는 초․중등 교사의 인구교육 실천 양상을 조사하고, 이러한 조사 결과를 바탕으로 학교에서 효율적인 인구 교육을 위해 필요한 요소와 방안에 대하 여 논의하였다. 조사 결과 교사의 인구교육 실천 모습은 성별․연령별․학교급 별․과목별로 다양하게 나타나고 있음을 확인하였고, 학교인구교육의 문제점을 진 단 할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 확인한 학교인구 교육의 문제점에는 먼저, 인구 교육의 양과 질이 매우 낮은 수준이라는 것과 학교급이 높아질수록 텍스트 중심의 교수법이 주로 이루어지고 있다는 것이다. 또한 외부전문가의 조력을 받기 어렵고, 교수․학습 자료가 부족하며, 교육과정에의 반영 정도가 미흡하다는 것이다. 본 연구자는 이러한 과제를 해결하기 위한 개선방안을 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 먼저, 학교인구교육 정책 결정자들은 첫째, 학교와 외부기관 간의 협조체제를 구축해야 한다. 둘째, 인구교육 내용의 교육과정에의 반영 확대를 위해 노력해야 한다. 셋째, 교과 특성에 적합한 친가족적 내용 요소를 개발하고 적용해야 한다. 넷째, 인구교육 관련 자료의 집적과 인구교육 온라인 사이트를 구축해야 한다. 다음으로 교사들은 첫째, 인구교육 내용을 정확히 이해하기 위한 노력을 해야 한다. 둘째, 학생들이 가지고 있는 인구관련 지식 수준과 가치관에 대한 이해가 필 요하다. 셋째, 인구교육에 적합한 교수․학습 방법 및 자료 개발을 위해 노력해야 한다. 넷째, 교사 자신의 인구 가치관을 탐색하고, 개인과 사회공동체의 조화로운 발전을 위해서는 어떤 인구교육을 해야 할 것인지에 대한 성찰이 필요하다.

This study investigated the actual condition of primary and secondary school teachers population education, and discussed the essential factors and ways to practice effective population education. The research revealed that teachers have been practicing population education differently by sexes, ages, schools, and subjects, and identified the tasks to activate school population education. The study suggested the following measures to achieve those tasks. Firstly, schools should establish the cooperative networks with external institutes. Secondly, school curriculum should include the extensive contents designed for population education. Thirdly, authorities should develop the teaching methods to integrate the family-oriented elements into various school subjects. Fourthly, population education requires the accumulated teaching materials and supportive online sites. Teachers have the following missions as well. Firstly, teachers should try to understand the contents of population education. Secondly, teachers need to understand students knowledge and values related to population. Thirdly, teachers should develop the appropriate teaching methods and materials for population education. Fourthly, teachers need to reflect their own population-related values and explore what sort of population education they should put into practice to promote the harmonious prosperity between an individual and a social community.
