Purpose - A concept of Innovation in service has been discussed many times, but we did not recognize the process of developing the new facility. As systematic perspective, we need a comprehensive understanding of the relationships based on components, respective interfaces, and substitutability of newly developed components in service architectures. Therefore, this study is to investigate what dimensions of modularity are considered to service innovation and how it formalizes the specific service innovation and its performance. Research design, data, and methodology - This study will be collecting data using open-ended and semi-structured interviews from computer engineers in Korea. The interviewee will have some experiences in developing the operating systems (IT service industry). The data will be conducted with comparative analysis. Results - This study will identify that modular service architecture allows the decomposition of a compound service system or process into smaller sub-systems. Also, we find that what specific factors of modularity will be related to the radical or incremental service innovation. Conclusions - It will contribute to the measures of modularity in service innovation and offer modularity concepts are making it possible to choose what the most critical factors for service innovation are. Moreover, it helps IT service managers to the better understanding of modular in service innovation.
