This study tries to seek for new directions of English literature education after the rapid spread of machine translation. Recent scholarly achievements on translation studies open the way for the possibilities of multiple interpretability, acknowledging the (in)visible intervention of translators in their renderings of the original texts. It is expected that the technological development of machine translation can be wisely used as an opportunity for the invigoration of English literature education. The sophistication of machine translation software may allow the users to customize the software such as style and manner, thus producing various versions of translation. The lively discussions over a variety of translated versions can kindle their interests in multimodal representations of literary elements. The readers can build up their insight from the scrupulous analysis on both verbal and non-verbal messages in the translations of picture books, illustrated books, or audiovisual materials like movies. This type of meta-translation criticism can become available with the help of advanced machine translation technology.
