Development of somatic embryos and plant regeneration in suspension culture of ligusticum chuangxion horts

This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of plant regeneration through somatic embryogenesis in suspension culture of Ligusticum chuangxiong. Embryogenic callus was induced from cotyledon on MS medium. Callus growth and somatic embryo formation rate were higher in suspension culture when 2,4-D 0.5~1.0㎎/ℓ were added. MS medium was good for somatic embryo development and its higher rate was observed at half strength MS medium. Sucrose as carbon sources was the most effective and 1% sucrose was enough for somatic embryo formation in half strength MS medium. The rate of nitrate to ammonium nitrogen of 825㎎/ℓ : 238㎎/ℓ was appeared as proper level for maximum somatic embryo formation in suspension culture.
