Chromosomal location of rindless culm(rlc) gene and morphological characteristics of Dangjin local maize line

In order to identify the location of rindless culm (rlc) gene derived from a Korean local maize, Dangjin line, homozygous rlc line was crossed with ten waxy-marked translocation sets. Ten sets of F₁ plant were selfed to produce F₂ seeds. F₂ kernels were separated into waxy and normal seed, and planted at each different row. Plants with rlc gene were counted in each row after tasseling. From Chi-square analysis, rlc gene was found to be very closely linked with T9-10b (p＜0.005) which has a breakage point of 0.4 on short arm of chromosome 10. Morphological characteristics were observed in F₂ populations such as zigzag type, multi-tillers and ears and lower-node-eared plants.
