Admiral Yi and Kwonjoon as his trusted commander in-chief under Lee s command

The victory gained by Yi Sun-Sin in sea war was possible because of cooperation of faithful and capable generals and staffs under him. Kwonjoon was also one of them.. Kwonjoon and Yi Sun-Sin met first when Yi was appointed as temporary assignment Deputy Defense General(Jobangang) under Lee Gwang after being liquidated military life for 10 years. At that time, Even though Government official in Suncheon(Suncheon Busa) Kwonjoon treated against Yi Sun-Sin sneeringly, but Yi never showed unfairness to him who didn t give a welcome. Yi Sun-Sin was the one that was able to think it with tolerance and generosity considering his situation. He was appointed as Naval Commander of Left Jeonla province(Jeonla Joasusa, jeong 3pum) when he was 47 years old in 1591. Feb. 13 getting a fast chance through Messenger officer for the King s order(Sunjoengwan) and the lord of district in Jeongeub(Jeongeub hyungam) in a short time. The recommendation of Yoo sung-yong who was the Minister of Civil Office Board(Ijopanseo) and Right official of State Council(Ueuijeong) resulted in an exceptional promotion for Yi Sun-Sin. Finally Yi Sun-Sin met again Kwonjoon. Because Government official in Suncheon, Kwonjoon was an executive official in Yi Sun-Sin s jurisdiction. The second meeting was at last accomplished when Yi Sun-Sin went a round of inspection each unit just before Kwonjoon was apppointed as the Centeral Commander of Yi s command(Jungwijang). After a few days, Kwonjoon held a feast again and shot an archery practice together. But Kwonjoon finally didn t finished in time at the account inspection of each departments as Yi Sun-Sin was worried. Therefore his persons in charge were punished. Yi Sun-Sin thought his capability wasn t good at that time. But his duty attitude changed dramatically after became appointed as Yi Sun-Sin s the Centeral Commander. Yi Sun-Sin maintained military discipline in Naval Base of Left Jeonla province(Jeonla Joasusa joasuyong) and stirred up the faithfulness and trust between the upper and lower sides, Kwonjoon was one of a fellow soldier suffering and rejoicing together too. When Imjinoilan (Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592) broke out, he played active part in the vanguard as the Centeral Commander of Lee s command. Government official in Suncheon Kwonjoon took a part in combat in 1592 Jun. 2 as a the Centeral Commander of Yi s command. He killed a japanese general with archery holding victory and sunk 21 japanese ships too. He was outstanding person as bravery of military aspect or general than the talent as an executive official. Yi Sun-Sin reported to the imperial court about the merits of subordinates, he never attributed the victory in sea war to own merits. Kwonjoon also played active part in hansando sea war that was 3rd participation. Kwonjoon destroyed one japanese ship in the vanguard and killed japanese generals and 10 soldiers. He as well as Yi Sun-Sin(another admiral), Uh young-dam, Bae hong-lib of Yi Sun-Sin s subordinates was dream team both in name and realty. They discussed about military affairs together and did an archery practice, paduk and korean wrestling and shared their fortunes eating together. In particular, the their cooperation like rations security and military procurement in the field was decisive for war achievement. But the imperial court dispatched a secret royal inspector and reported to it about plundering and embezzlement that Yi Sun-Sin s subordinate performed field procurement.
