고려시 가르치는 자의 자질과 고과에 한 연구

A Study on the Qualification and Evaluation of Teachers in Koryeo(高麗)

로부터 자식에 한 가르침을 ‘의방’(義方), 백성에 한 가르침을 ‘풍교’(風敎) 내지 ‘성 교’(聲敎), 스승의 가르침을 ‘사훈’(師訓)이라 하여 가르침을 시하여 왔는데, 남을 가르치기 해서는 무엇보다 가르치는 자가 가르치기 한 자질을 제로 구비하고 있어야 한다. 가르 치는 자의 자질로는 첫째, 경에 밝고 리 통달해야 하며[經明], 그 가르침으로 배우는 자의 무지를 깨우쳐야 하고[發蒙], 나아가 배우는 자로 하여 그 내용에 해 끊임없이 질문하고 논란하도록 하며[問難](인지 자질), 둘째, 도덕으로 품행이 방정해야 하고[德敎], 스스로 가 르침을 즐기며[樂敎], 공경해야 하고[敬敎](정의 자질), 셋째, 말로 그치는 가르침 즉 언교( 敎)가 아니라 몸소 실천하는 가르침 즉 신행(身行)하되, 게으르지 않고 부지런히 행해야 하며 [勤行], 나아가 배우는 자를 함에 있어서도 진심과 정성을 다해 면려해야 한다[誠行](활동 자질). 다음으로, 오늘날 교사 근무평정 기과 마찬가지로 가르치는 자에 한 고과의 기 역시 근태(근무수행태도)와 능력(근무실 근무수행능력)으로 별될 수 있다. 여기서 능력 은 구체으로 제자수 특히 과거응시자수[赴試數], 강의과목수[講授多] 등을 기으로 그 단이 이루어진 것으로 보인다. 가르치는 자의 자질로 정의･실천 자질이 상당히 시되 었음에도 불구하고 이에 한 고과는 제로 이루어지지 않았음을 알 수 있으며, 그 고과의 기도 제자수, 과거응시자수, 강의과목수 등으로 체로 정량 평가 주로 이루어졌음을 알 수 있다.

A person who teaches others must be well equipped with qualifications to teach. The qualifications of teachers, there are cognitive qualifications, affective qualifications, active qualifications. In the cognitive qualifications, be versed in the scriptures[經明], be cultivating ignorance, namely enlighten[發蒙], be constantly asking questions and controversial about that content[問難], in the affective qualifications, be lead a virtuous life[德敎], be enjoy teaching oneself[樂敎], be proud of one s teaching[敬敎], in the active(practical) qualifications, not talk only with words but practice teaching[身行], be practice teaching assiduously[勤行], exert oneself sincerely to those who learn[誠待]. The criteria for evaluation of teachers, there are whether diligent or negligent in teaching[勤怠], pupils number and applicants number of the civil service examination[科擧應試數], classes number[講義 科目數]. Even though affective and active qualifications were required in the qualifications of one s teaching, actually evaluation of it didn t work properly. And the criteria for evaluation were focused on quantitative evaluation, pupils number and applicants number of the civil service examination, classes number and so on.
