This study was conducted to obtain basic informations for breeding of cabbage variety resistant to cabbage yellows. Germplasm collection and breeding lines were subjected to the experiment to clarify the optimum screening method at seeding stage, to evaluate resistance level and to analyze the inheritance mode of resistance. The optimum inoculum concentration for differentiate between susceptible and resistance plants was considered to be about 2×10⁶ conidia/㎖. Seedling stage of 14th day after sowing were most suitable for inoculation and screening for resistance. Root dipping method showed higher pathogenic reaction and it was considered more suitable inoculation method for selecting than soil inoculation. Among the F₁ varieties tested, YR Howall, YR Nungsan, YR Kumchu 152, Blue Vantage, Daetong, BC 26 and BC 38 showed high-level resistance and Green Cornet, K. Y Cross, BC 19, BC 35 showed moderate resistance, whereas K. K Cross, Hayadori, Sakewhack and Woochi NO. 1 were susceptible to cabbage yellows. Among breeding lines tested, 33 lines including BO 25, BO 30 were selected for their high-level resistance. It was considered that the resistance gene would be already distributed and involved in diverse groups of variety. Progeny test of F₁, F₂ BC1P1, and BC1P2 indicated that cabbage yellows resistance was controlled by single dominant allele.
