Varietal difference in response to salt-treatment in rice

To investigate the varietal difference of response to salt, seven hundred and ten rice varieties and lines were tested for salt-tolerance. The salt injuries among all varieties and lines tested were clearly differentiated at the twenty-one days after salt treatment. At twenty-one days after salt treatment the plant heights of fifty varities at salt concentration 0.15 percent and seven varities at salt concentration 0. 2 percent were above 70 percent to the those of control plant. However, the shoot and root dry weights of eighteen varieties were above 70 percent to those of the control plants at 0.15 percent of salt concentration. Seokangbyo, Hunan56, IR2298-PIPB-3, IR3941-78-1, and Chiem Chanh were identified to be tolerant to salt treatment at 0.15% Nacl.
