To obtain the basic informations for the mutation breeding and to select the morphological mutants in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), the seeds were treated with gamma rays of 0-30kR, and the induction frequency of mutation in M₂ generation and distribution of morphological mutants in M₃ generation. The morphological characteristics induced by gamma-ray in M₂ generation were the short stem, few branches, leaf shape, multipods and botanical type. The induction rate of mutation was 16.0% at 30kR in cotyledonary branch. Distribution of mutants of short stem length, few branches multipods selected in M₂ generation were 31%, 35%, 23%, respectively. In M₃ generation, the main stem length and number of pods per plant were negative correlation with the yields in the short stem mutants lines and the number of branch and pod per plant were highly positive correlation with the yields in few branches mutants lines and the number of pods per plant was highly positive correlation with the yields in multipoded mutants lines.
