Variation of some agronomic characters in different leaf-color progenies of rice

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of two leaf color genes, Z₋₄(zebra) and yp (yellow green) on grain yield and other agronomic characters in rice. In the F₂ populations of cross between normal green and zebra lines or yellow green lines, Culm length, number of spikelets per panicle, single grain weight and grain yield per hill in zebra and yellow green phenotypes were lower compared with those in green one. Also, number of panicles per hill in zebra phenotype was less than that of green one. F₂ individuals of zebra and yellow green cross were classified to four phenotypes-green, zebra, yellow green and zebraㆍyellow green. Among four phenotypes, green phenotype showed the highest number of panicles per hill and zebraㆍyellow green phenotype showed the lowest ratio of ripened grain.
