1945년 8월 15일 해방은 우리 민족이 느끼는 세계 제일의 기쁨이었다. 해방은 감격의 도가니였다. 일제의 의해 일그러진 우리 역사가 곧게 펴질 듯 기운이 넘쳤다. 해방의 기쁨과 감격은 우리 역사의 중요한 고비마다 당면 과제 해결의 정신으로 작용하였다. 해방을 위해서는 일제강점기 민족운동에서도 3.1운동이 자양분이 되었다. 3.1운동은 해방시기 국민국가 건설, 4.19시기 민주·민족 운동의 역사적 과제를 실현할 수 있는 원동력으로 기억되었다. 또한 궁극적 과제의 해결을 위한 역사적 거울로 작용하며 오늘에 이어지고 있다. 이처럼 한국근대사에 있어 가장 큰 역사적 사건이 3․1운동이라면, 해방은 한국현대사의 새로운 시작점이자 일제강점기라는 아픈 역사를 경험한 우리 민족에게 있어 세계 제일의 기쁨이었다.

On Aug.15,1945 the Korea’s independence from Japan was the world’s greatest pleasure which Korean people had felt. For this, the 3.1 movement among the national movements in the Japanese colonial period was nurtured. Also, the 3.1 movement was remembered the driving force to realize the historical tasks of democracy and national movement at 4.19 time or of nation-state construction at the dependence time. The dependence was an overwhelming moment. Korean history which was distorted by the Japanese imperialism was full of energy as straightened. The deep emotion and joy acted as the spirit of the solution for the urgent problems at every important moment of Korean history. It also serves as the historical mirror for the solution of the ultimate tasks and continues to this day.
