An Examination of the Mencius Annotation( 굶子請解) published in the 17th century and its Bibliographic Features

This study ex없nines previously published versions of the Mencius Annotation(굶子諸解) as described in thε Annotation of Four Books( 四書護解)‘ The annotations are examin떠 chronologically with respecr to their orthography, vocabulary, translations, and Chinese characters. In addition, a general εxplanation of wood block book is provided and the problems associated with the books are illustrated by e잃mining sever따 works that wiεre published at the same t1me. The Book of Mencius Annotation(굶子짧解) was published as a meraI type in the later 16th century issuεd by KyoJungα1Ung， a Josεon dynasty office that de따t with editing and later as a wood block book. These versions were actually reissues of the KyungSeojabokgakbon, which was published in the 17th century (a single bo여ζ was published in 1637 and many first publication books were issued in 1684). The metal type printing book was published using the metal printing typε5 Musinja(여申字) and Wonjongja(元宗字)， whiζh were based on the letter Wonjong(jf;宗) (Injo’5 father, rhe 16th king in the Joseon period). It is expected that this study of the Menιius Annotarion(굶子該解)， as described in rhe 17th century AnnotatÍon of Fout Books, will contribute to the existing body of knowledge concerning the publishing of cultural history books and the study of the Korean Ianguage.
