This study provides a close examination of the ideas of SongAm, KimMyeon 松魔金i(1541~1593 )ungJong 36-Seon)o 26) as expressed through his works SongAm was a true scholar who was not interεsted in government service but instead pursued learning. During the time of )apanese aggression, he raised an army for the cause of justice and resistεd ) apan. He died of smallpox in the war and is remembered as a brave person who was both a scholar and the leader of loyal troops. Topics covεred in his 23 poems include interpersonal relations, naturε (trees and grass), gratítude and milítary lifi ‘ In the poem about interpersonal relations, the characters are ]eongGu(鄭迷), HaGang(河ì10, Kwak]un(郭越), ]eongSaWi(鄭土偉) and his nephew. ]eongGu(홉~迷) devoted himself to his study and was intεrεsted in politícal affairs, so he wεnt into government setvice. He felt that setvice to the country provides an opportunity for learning‘ He also mentioned that hís intention was to rest quietly, even if he goes to the watεr with a fishing pole. SongAm rumself said that his desire was to live in a hermitage. In HaGang’s poεm, he expressed his devotion to his parents and regretted that he didn’ t show his gratitude. In the poems in wruch he took a stroll with Kwak]un and YoungMun(龍門), he praised Y oungMun(龍門)’ s hígh spirit and his expectation that YoungMun(龍門) would one day bring clarity to the world‘ In poems about ]ungSa Wi, he expressed his desire to save people from their troubles. In the poem dedicated to his nephew, he described the lovε of parents for their children and in the other poem, he revealed his wish to escape this filthy world‘ The poetic thεme, nature (tr<εes and grass), is revealed through a ]apanese apdωt tree and a bamboo. These symbolize the Four Gracious Plants and represent man’s honor. Thε pinε tree represents fidelity and the sunf10wer sings that it misses the king. The lotus represents purity. The song, Paulownia, is about waiting for the phoenixand in trus unclear world, dreaming of a more idεal place. In the poems about gratitude or the emotions one feels wrule serving in the army, worldIy cares in the real world are described. In <居講學>, <松下>, and <玉山精舍>, the benefit of study and meditation are emphasized. The poem <寫惡符章有感> describes one who deludes the world and deceiγes itspeople. SongAm was a righteous man who yeatned for an ideal world. When his country and people were attacked, he raised an army to pursue jusrice and died of smallpox while fighting for this cause‘
