South and North Korea say frequεntly peacefu1 coeXÎstεnce, but there is a serious antagonism between them. ParadoXÎcally, trus antipathy get more deeply, when they emphasize a homogeneous nation. The logic, wruch means that the South and North Korea are a single nation and therefore should be unified, denies differences under the people who have lived in quite different systems more than a half century. That is, they regard difference as the faultiness. A subjective sight on the self-system objectifies a sight of the other, and then it degenerates to a distinctive sight. One must actualize peaceful coexistence, by sublating ideological discussions of the unification and acknowlεdging the mutual systεms. This study will investigate the figurεs of the North Korean novels in the 1970’ s, who represented thε typical values at that time. This study researched 9 representative novels of thε North Korea that was published in 1970’s, in ~JoseonmunhakolJ(조선문학): r PassionJ (열정, 1969.3), r How fruits must bear J (열매는 어떻게 익어야하는가J (l 969. 11), rFirst Performance J (첫공연, 197 1. 12), rThe Sound of wavesJ(파도소리, 1972. 5), LoveJ(사랑, 1973. 1), rThe fatherJ( 아벼지, 1973. 9), rln a or이‘nary days(보통날에, 1974. 3), r A way to the loveJ (사랑의 길, 1975. 2), rThe MeetingJ(상봉, 1976, 7)‘ The literature of North Korea in 1970’s entered into an age of Juche-Iiterary theory. This theory is based on Juche Idεology, and therefore emphasizes a role of man. Thereupon the figures of the novels in 1970’s are in important position. The literature at that time demands to describe the figures, that is, the independent figure who supports independence of man. so a study of the figures plays a decisive role in understanding of the values in the age of J uchε.
