The Humanism of Hongikinkan(弘益人間) Idea

단군신화는 인간중심주의로 일관되어 있다 할 수 있다. 홍익인간은 단군신화를 관통하는 인간중심주의적 지향의 백미에 해당하는 명제이다. 논문에서는 홍익인간사상을 인본주의라는 측면에서 분석하였다. 이때의 인본주의는 인간을 다른 어떤 가치나 존재보다 우선적이고 존엄한 존재로 생각하는 관점이자, 인간에 대한 사랑과 봉사를 촉구하는 이타적 윤리관이라는 차원의 의미이다. 홍익인간의 인본주의는 국가와 권력을 향하여 먼저 제기되고 있다. 국가와 권력은 인간과 인간의 행복을 위하여 작동해야 한다는 것이다. 홍익인간의 인본주의는 국가와 권력에 대한 ‘인간’의 우선성과 목적성을 주장하는 데서 그치지 않는다. 인간세상에 존재하며 인간의 삶에 영향주는 모든 조직 · 권위 · 체제 · 제도 · 구조들에 대해서도 같은 요구를 하고 있으며, 구성원 개개인의 삶의 방식에 대해서도 같은 원칙으로 제기되는 것이다. 홍익인간의 인본주의는 정치 · 경제 · 사회 · 문화 · 교육 · 종교 · 언론 · 법률로부터 과학기술에 이르기까지 인간사회에서 작동되는 모든 문명장치들은 인간을 위해 봉사해야 한다고 주장한다. 그리고 구성원 개개인들에게는 이웃과 공동체의 행복을 위해 봉사하는 삶, 곧 이타주의적 윤리관을 촉구한다.

Human-centrism is the main view point of Dangun myth. And Hongikinkan(弘益人間) idea is the core thesis of Human-centrism in Dangun myth. This article discusses the Hongikinkan idea in the context of humanism. Humanism think that human being is preferential and dignified existence and the love and service for human being is desirable. Hongikinkan humanism firstly emphasizes that state and authority must be operated for the happiness of mankind. All of the organizations, authoritys, systems, institutions and structures of human society must contribute to the happiness of mankind, and not for the rullers and entitled group. And it urges that man must live with the ethics of altruism. Hongikinkan idea is the founding principle of old joseon and education principle of modern Korea. Generally It was translated as the greatest service for the benefit of humanity. It was the hope and appointment of the ancient Koreans toward the society and human life. And the core orientation of Hongikinkan will be abridged as humanism or humanitarianism.
