<권익중전>의 통속적 성격과 의미

Paying attention to focus on communications with secular world and interests of readers in popularity, this study figures out popular characteristics of <Kweon-Ikjung-Jeon>. <Kweon-Ikjung-Jeon> shows its development having absorbed the nutritious elements of the previous literature traditions rather than creating new things by pursuing its own genre openness and diversity. And inter-contradictory elements exist in the narrative of <Kweon-Ikjung-Jeon> and through these contradictory points, changes of values of readers in the age are revealed. For narrative techniques of <Kweon-Ikjung-Jeon>, fantasy and tension are mainly used to attract readers into its narrative. <Kweon-Ikjung-Jeon> is a work to have powerfully a ‘play’ function of literature and a possibility of a kind of ‘play culture’. Its popular characteristic overthrows factors to oppress lives in the reality and provides a drive of healthy life and comfort for our lives.
