日章旗抹消事件에 대한 체육문화사 연구

An analysis of the history of athletic culture rerelated to the erasure of the Japanese national flag : the focus on the newspaper reports in October, 1936

日章旗抹消事件은 1936년 베를린올림픽대회에서 마라톤경기로 우승한 孫基禎의 사진에서 日章旗를 削除하여 報道한 것을 朝鮮總督府가 발견하고 이를 사건화한 것을 말한다. 이 사건의 핵심인물은 東亞日報운동부기자 李吉用이라고 한다. 이것이 일반적으로 소개된 사건의 내용(백과사전 등)이다. 그러나 사실은 당시 民族言論(新聞)들이 모두 이와 비슷한 민족적 감정(抗日 및 獨立運動)을 보도하고 있었다. 특히 朝鮮中央日報는 東亞日報보다 12일 먼저 日章旗를 삭제하였다(학계의 일반적인 주장). 그런데 최근 이에 대한 또 다른 의견(東亞日報가 먼저)이 있어 이 연구는 이에 대한 진실을 파악하려 한것이다. 즉 1936년 8월 日章旗삭제보도에 대한 民族言論(新聞)을 다시 확인하고 그 내용(알려진 오류지적)과 함께 의의(체육문화)를 연구한 것이다. 연구결과는 1936년 8월 이후부터는 서로 다른 방향으로 전환하였지만 8월까지 발행 되었던 모든 民族言論(新聞)들은 민족감정(抗日혹은 獨立運動)을 표출하고 있었다.

The erasure of the Japanese national flag became an issue as the Japanese government-general of Korea discovered that the Japanese national flag in the picture of Kijeong Son was erased when he won at the marathon competition at the Berlin Olympics of 1936. According to sources such as encyclopedias, Gilyong Lee, an athletics reporter at Dong-A Daily Newspaper was the key figure in this incident. However, other Korean newspapers in that time also reported nationalistic activities such as anti-Japanese independence movements. Especially Chosun Joongang Daily Newspaper erased the Japanese national flag 12 days earlier than did the Dong-A. Though this claim has been widely accepted in the academic community, another claim that the Dong-A was the first has existed. This study aimed to inquire into the truth examining these claims. Specifically, the reports about the erasure of the Japanese flag that the Korean newspapers made in Aug, 1936 were examined to verify these claims and to analyze the significance of them(athletic culture). This study found that while most of the Korean newspapers made reports about anti-Japanese nationalistic activities before October, 1936, the reports from the newspapers after October, 1936 showed a change in the direction.
